CM Oommen Chandy promises video trial for Apple victims in Gulf

The Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, on Thursday morning gave some relief to victims of the Apple a Day realty scam in the UAE by meeting them through video conference and offering to send a police team to the Gulf for a probe.

Around 9.30 am (IST) and 8 am UAE, Mr Chandy was huddled in front of a computer, along with the director-general of police, Mr Jacob Punnoose, at his office room, to interact with the petitioners at two centres in UAE –– 45 people in Dubai and 35 in Abu Dhabi.

Mr Chandy assured the mostly middle and low income victims that he would send the police to their place of work to record their complaints and during the pre-trial stage, arrange for a videoconferencing facility between the magistrate here and the Indian Mission in UAE to record their statements.

Mr Chandy had received about 110 complaints on email from victims who had remitted between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 25 lakh to buy flats in Kochi.
