Minister eyes Nims project

June 12: In spite of the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, recently assuring that the 200-crore Nims University Campus (Bibinagar project) would not be privatised, a new private player — a well-known group of education institutions having a medical college at Nellore — has emerged on the scene.

According to sources, a certain minister is making arrangements to sell off the government project and ensuring that his close relative gets a stake in the purchase. A highly-placed administrative source at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences said, “Some changes and transfers in the medical and health department are in the offing. Meanwhile, arrangements are slowly being made to sell off the Bibinagar project in Nalgonda to a private party and negotiations with two players are currently on. If the deal is clinched, the minister’s relative will be a major shareholder.”

This would explain why the government has not been investing further in the project or has not gone forward with the 100-bed hospital for the locals there, leading to the building resembling a haunted house. Sources point out that the entire deal is being kept under wraps. This is because the TRS has warned against privatisation.
