OU professor held for forgery

June 17: The Osmania University on Friday suspended Prof V. Jagadeeshwar Rao, the director of the Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC). He was arrested on June 14 for alleged forgery and fabrication of documents. Prof M. Upendar, department of economics, OU, has been appointed as director of EMRC with immediate effect.

Prof Rao was accused of changing the minutes of the seventh Board of Management (BOM) meeting of EMRC and introducing content to his advantage. There were complaints that Prof Rao had tweaked the minutes of the Board meeting over the reinstatement of former section officer of EMRC, Mr Madhusudhan Reddy, who resigned to contest the elections. There were also allegations that Prof Rao altered some words in the minutes of the BOM meeting. During the meeting it was decided to buy an OB van for the centre. He replaced the words ‘OB van’ with ‘Indigo car.’ He was also charged with tampering with the details of employees’ salaries.

Meanwhile, the Osmania University has cancelled the PGCET exam for linguistic papers scheduled on Friday, following complaints of leakage of question papers. About 800 students were to appear for the exam at the centre in AV College, Domalguda. However, the students boycotted the exam, alleging that the question papers had been leaked. They held a demonstration at the centre demanding cancellation of the exam. The OU officials, while denying this charge, decided to cancel the exam and ordered an inquiry into the issue. The officials said that a fresh date for the exam would be announced.
