RCom to launch under-sea cable with an investment of Rs650cr




Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company Reliance Communications is planning to launch an under-sea cable system HAWK with an estimated investment of Rs650 crore.

The new cable will connect Mediterrenean region to rest of the world via Europe and Asia.

This cable will be part of FLAG network of Reliance Communications, connecting Cyprus to Alexandria. It will work as an alternative during any kind of damage to its cable.

In January 2008, the FLAG cable were cut by an accident which had badly effected internet service in parts of the world, including India.

The HAWK facility at Cyprus is expected to be commercially launched shortly.

According the source, the cable will be 3,181 kilometer long and have an initial capacity of 100 gigabyte per second.

When contacted, the RCom spokesperson declined to comment.
