Twelve persons of Tamil origin, including two women, were nabbed by Central police from a lodge in the city while they were preparing to go to Australia by boat.
They are being questioned by officials of Intelligence Bureau along with police officials.
The gang, suspected to be Sri Lankans, was nabbed from City Lodge near South junction while a police team from Central station was conducting raids at lodges in the city.
Those detained were first taken to the Central station and later on shifted to the office of Intelligence Bureau in Kochi.
The raid by Central police was part of a subdivision-level combing ordered by assistant commissioner K.M. Anto to check for violations of The Juvenile Justice Act 2000.
