
Sanjiv Goenka carves out new identity for group companies
Sanjiv Goenka, the younger son of one of the doyens of Indian business R. P. Goenka, on Wednesday launched a new corporate identity called RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group marking an amicable split between the two sons of R P Goenka. The aggregate turnover of Sanjiv Goenka’s group of companies’ would be around Rs 9000 crores.Mr. Goenka (Sanjiv) told The Hindu in an exclusive interaction that the new group will be active in five business sectors – power and natural resources, carbon black, retail, media and entertainment and infrastructure mainly within India.
“But I will have ownership of the RPG brand and my brother and I will have equal ownership over two business segments – hotels and plantation. The group’s hotel business comprise three hotels in Bengaluru, Chennai and Ooty. Its plantation business is also in the south covering tea, and rubber mainly.
He said that while there is no legal bar on entry into each other’s area but there is no question of it either at this stage. Elder brother Harsh’s business interests cover tyres, IT and power transmission.
The total group turnover of the entire RPG group is about Rs 19000 crores.
