Five killed in road accident

Five construction workers died on the spot and 13 sustained injuries when the Tempo Trax by which they were travelling rammed a lorry near Nelahal in the Kora police station limits in Tumkur district on Sunday.

The police identified the dead as Veeresha (28), Maunesh (20), Hanumanthappa (20), Maunappa (35) and S. Maunesh (30).

The construction workers, all from Anehosur, Hesaruru, Shiravara and Bidarakarala villages in Raichur district, were coming to Bangalore for work. The accident occurred around 4 a.m.

Five persons who sustained head injuries were shifted to NIMHANS in Bangalore. The other injured were admitted to the government hospital in Tumkur. Driver of the MUV, Gangaiah (22), is among the injured.

One killed, six injured

In another accident, one person died on the spot and six were injured when the Tempo Trax by which they were travelling crashed through a divider and fell into a ditch on the other side of the National Highway 4 near Chikkanahalli of Sira taluk on Sunday.

The police identified the dead as Basava (25). He, along with nine other labourers were on their way to Bangalore from Lingsugur in Raichur district.

The injured persons, including the driver, are being treated at the government hospital in Tumkur.

G.S. Basavaraju, MP; Maanappa D. Vajjal, Lingsugur MLA; M.R. Hulinayakar, MLC; T.R. Suresh, Superintendent of Police; and other officials visited the government hospital at Tumkur and enquired about the people injured in the two accidents.

Mr. Vajjal said he had assured the affected families that the Government would provide compensation.
