Rajinikanth in hospital on first day of film Rana's shoot

CHENNAI: Superstar Rajinikanth was taken to St Isabel's Hospital in Mylapore on Friday after he complained of fatigue and vomiting on the first day of shooting for his forthcoming film 'Rana' .

Doctors attending on him said he was admitted for dehydration and exhaustion. " He was in ICU. We gave him fluid replacement and medicines for mild stomach infection," said Dr C V Krishnaswamy.

According to sources, the actor complained of breathing difficulty in the morning. His private physician, Dr M Balasubramaniam , sent him to the hospital for fluid replacements and rest, and he was discharged from hospital in the evening.

The actor is playing a triple role in the movie directed by K S Ravikumar, with whom he had earlier done 'Padayappa' and 'Muthu' . The movie, which is planned for release next year in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, will see the superstar romance actor Deepika Padukone.

The movie also has a worldclass list of technicians, including cinematographer R Rathnavelu and Oscar winner A R Rahman.
