200 youths detained after raid on rave party

Over 200 boys and girls were detained in Maharashtra's Raigad district after police raided a rave party at a resort here late Sunday, an official said.

"We have detained over 200 boys and girls in the operation," said inspector S. Patil, head of Khalapur police station.

Police said that most of those rounded-up were in the age group of 20 to 25 and have been taken for medical test.

The raid was still on at 11 p.m. and police were trying to ascertain the type, quantity of drugs and liquor served in the party.

Ten youths were also detained during the raid at hotel Mount View at Karjat, 100 km away from here, they said, adding that a large quantity of drugs has been recovered from the hotel.

A police inspector working in the Mumbai Police's Anti-Narcotics Cell was also reportedly present at the rave party when the raid was conducted, they said.

Police said they were verifying the officer's possible links with the organisers of the party.

The police action came on a day, which is observed as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
