Government conspired to kill me: Ramdev

HARIDWAR: A visibly shaken Baba Ramdev, clad in a white woman's salwar and kurta, on Sunday accused the United Progressive Alliance government of having conspired to kill him during the police crackdown on his satyagraha at the Ramlila Grounds in New Delhi on the intervening night of May 4 and 5.

“The supporters of black money may have ejected me from New Delhi, but the indefinite fast will continue till my demands are met,” he said here.

Sources close to Baba Ramdev revealed that his supporters had sought permission for undertaking a fast from the NOIDA administration. The officials who had conveyed this to Lucknow have sought a written request. Baba Ramdev seems adamant on continuing his indefinite fast anywhere in the National Capital Region close to Delhi, it was said.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had a closed-door meeting with Baba Ramdev at the Patanjali Yogpeeth in the afternoon.

Emerging from the meeting, Mr. Nishank said he was shocked at the way the yoga guru was treated by the UPA government. “We support the anti-corruption crusade launched by Baba Ramdev and he can continue his fast anywhere in the State,” he said.

Talking to newspersons after the police escorted him back from New Delhi in the morning, Baba Ramdev called upon all political, religious and social groups and individuals to rise and demand action for retrieving black money, bringing about an India-specific administrative system and promoting education in all fields in Indian languages. He accused the government of threatening not to meet any of his demands if rights activist Anna Hazare was allowed to share the dais with him.
