Husband, drunk on 11 pegs, killed Jaipal niece

June 22: An unsuspecting Kiran Reddy, niece of the Union minister, Mr S. Jaipal Reddy, was murdered by her drunken husband, Dr S. Chaitanya Reddy, in a fit of rage after an argument over his behaviour at a party. Dr Chaitanya was arrested by the Jubilee Hills police here on Wednesday on the basis of the post mortem report, his own confession and investigations, which, police said, established that he had smothered her to death on June 17.

Kiran Reddy, 29, was married to doctor-cum-businessman Dr Soma Chaitanya Reddy, about five years ago. The couple stayed at Nyaya Vihar, Road No. 78, in Jubilee Hills along with their four-year-old daughter. On June 17, the couple had attended a bachelor’s party thrown by Kiran’s brother, Mr Sunil Reddy, at N Grill restaurant in Jubilee Hills.

Chaitanya, kin claim torture
Chaitanya Reddy on Wednesday told a Nampally court that the cops had been torturing him since he was detained on June 18. The magistrate directed the cops for Chaitanya’s medical examination in jail.
Meanwhile, Chaitanya’s relatives approached the US Consulate to seek protection for him claiming that he is a US citizen who is being tortured by the cops in the city. Chaitanya’s cousin, Ms Kalpana Reddy, said, “Kiran had taken ‘shots’ along with her liquor at the NGrill pub. We don’t know what kind of shots she mixed with her drinks.”
