AHMEDABAD: A 30-year-old Gujarati based in London has convinced her parents to become parents again and add a sibling to the family. Mitali Patel works with a private firm and is single.

She knew her parents always wanted two children. She got in touch with doctor couple Falguni and Himanshu Bavishi in Ahmedabad on email and then convinced her mother Sulekha (52) and father Mukesh (60) to have a baby through in-vitro fertilisation and also fulfil her wish of a sibling.

Mitali also promised she would look after the child. She discussed the details of the treatment with the Bavishis over email. The Patel couple went in for IVF and embryos were planted in Sulekha's womb. The doctors were impressed by the daughter's initiative.

"We have had parents accompanying their children wishing another child. But a child bringing her parents requesting for a sibling was something we have not come across. The girl was determined in realising her parents' dream of having a second child and also get a sibling in the process," said Dr Falguni. Her father works with the aviation department at Heathrow and mother is a home-maker.

The couple told the doctors that they always wanted to have two children but Sulekha could never conceive after Mitali. "She kept in touch with us for a year, understanding all the procedures. When the three came here, she was the pillar of strength for the parents. We hope their dream is fulfilled soon," said Dr Bavishi.
