PUTTAPARTHI: Life in this pilgrim centre returned to normal on Thursday following the Andhra Pradesh government's official announcement that Sri Sathya Sai Baba is on the road to recovery.

After the town spent a week amid anxiety and tension, majority of business establishments opened shutters on Thursday. Educational institutions were also open to make up for the time lost due to restrictions.Businessman Nagesh Reddy, who has a shop on Puttaparthi main road, said: "We knew he would successfully tide over the health crisis for the third time. He will sure live till the age of 96 as Sai Baba himself has claimed."

Traffic was yet to return on the roads as security forces continued the four-layer security cordon to keep the devotees coming in vehicles at bay.
