Geeta jostles for Dy CM’s post

June 8: The heavy industries minister, Ms J. Geeta Reddy, who is currently in New Delhi, has been trying to convince the central Congress leaders that she is the best candidate for the deputy chief minister’s post given her seniority and past service to the party.

It now seems that the appointment of the higher education minister, Mr C. Damodar Raj Narasimha, as the new deputy chief minister might not be announced right now though he was sounded two days ago by the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. The Chief Minister is reportedly holding back the appointment of Mr Raj Narasimha as he thinks it will be better to take it up along with other changes in the Cabinet, slated for the month end.

According to sources, the Chief Minister wants to shift Ms Sabita Indra Reddy from the home portfolio and allot the same to Mr Raj Narasimha when he becomes the deputy chief minister. Meanwhile, Ms Geeta Reddy has been camping in New Delhi urging party leaders to consider her for the deputy chief minister’s post.

She has submitted a detailed report to the incharge of Congress affairs in the state, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, before he left on his US trip. Ms Reddy belongs to the Mala sub-caste of SCs, who are traditionally considered as a vote bank of the Congress, and has been in politics for over three decades.
