Report on revised school fee structure ready

CHENNAI: The much awaited announcement on the revised fee structure for nearly 6,400 private schools in the State was made here on Monday, but the details were not immediately made available to either schools or parents.

Special Officer in the Private Schools Fee Determination Committee A. Thirugnanasambandam announced that based on the hearings conducted over the last few months, the Committee had come out with the revised fee structure. “We will hand over the details to the Chief Educational Officers (CEOs) of all the districts. The CEOs will pass on the information to schools in their respective districts,” he told mediapersons.

The CEOs in various districts asked the schools to collect the details of their revised fee structure on Tuesday. Chennai CEO S. Nagaraja Murugan said: “We have asked representatives of all the private school managements that had sought revision to assemble at a school tomorrow [Tuesday]. We will hand over the details to them.”

However, till late Monday evening, school managements and parents were not sure when and how the information would be made available.

B. Purushothaman, correspondent of Everwin Matriculation School, said school managements were asked to get in touch with the CEO's office and check when they could collect the details. “After calling thrice and being asked to wait, I went to the CEO's office but the officials there told us that we would have to collect it on Tuesday.”

Parents, who were anxiously checking the official websites (http://www.tn.gov.in/departments/sed.html and www.pallikalvi.in) for updates, found no information online.

R. Muthukrishnan, member of the parents' association, CSI Bain Matriculation School, said there should have been more transparency while releasing the revised report on fee structure. “We thought the details would be shared on the websites or put up on school notice boards today, but no information was available,” he said.
