Tearful reunion for Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: It was a tearful reunion for the Pakistani crew members of mv Suez with their families on Thursday evening. Their cause was taken up by Pakistan human rights activist Ansar Burney and Sindh Governor Ishrat Ul Ebad. Together they mobilised $ 1.1 million as part payment towards the $2.1-million ransom demanded by Somali pirates to secure the release of the sailors.

Later, the Governor's House was thrown open for a reception for all the crew members.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ebad said: “Our gesture is the message of love. I hope that India, too, will reciprocate with love because Indian sailors have also been saved. I used to hear their families through the media. I even talked to some of them. They were really upset.”

Five Pakistani sailors saved by the Indian Navy from Somali pirates in March are still confined to a Mumbai police station.
